I know that title is going to cause a few upsets, but let me explain a little further. Debian is boring, well it is but in this instance it’s not what you think.
I use Linux on my servers at home, Ubuntu and Debian, they run a mixture of web, dhcp, kvm services and to be honest they work well, so well in fact that I don’t have to touch them. They are running fine, no errors, don’t need to tweak anything, my Debian storage server is running fine I can access files on samba shares….sigh, it just works. And that’s why I say it’s boring, I’ve installed them, setup what I need them to do and erm that’s it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I don’t have to spend every five mins fixing something but just leaving them there without having to play….what a tech lovers knightmare [yes I’m kidding]
So there you have it, if you want a server that you just want to run and run and not tweak anything, then think about the Linux operating system. It’s not as easy as you think, but once you’ve used it once, you’ll love it.
